The program is open to students in grades 10, 11, and 12. Ninth-grade students may participate for practice.
The test covers topics including:
Students also complete a 300-word essay, which may be used as a tiebreaker during judging.
Outstanding students advance through the competition, with state-level winners receiving an educational trip to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C., including a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.
American Legion Posts and participating schools should follow the current Department of Ohio guidelines for administering the test and submitting results.
